Here's the most recent manifestation of this thing:<br><br><img src="https://filedb.experts-exchange.com/incoming/2020/04_w18/1451341/git.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"><br>I need to rebase "final-activity-stream" to the newest and coolest version of "code-cleanup." When I try to do that, you see how I get hung up (again) with "bin/start.sh" when it tells me that permissions are denied.<br><br>This isn't a file that I'm going to edit. If I try "rm bin/start.sh," I'm told "cannot remove 'bin/start.sh': Permission denied."<br><br>I can force my way around different branches, but I want to do this right. I've added this file to my "gitignore" file..<br><br># dev bin files<br>bin/start.sh<br><br>...but I get the impression that something else has to occur in order for that change to kick in, but it seems that no matter what I try, I don't have the right permissions and the thing that's the real kick in the pants is this is a shell script that I'm not going to ever edt.<br><br>So...<br><br>How do I remove it from the "Git" sphere of functionality?&nbsp;

Somehow I've deleted "bin/start.sh." It simply removes it from the list of files that git is tracking</li><li>Still, you have to do an "rm," because, even after you've added it to the list of files that Git is now going to ignore, it's still in your staging area</li><li>Removing the file from you staging area after it's been modified is going to prompt Git to ask how you want to handle the changes you've made to that file.</li><li>As far as, "...cached to keep the file, or -f to force removal," I'm not sure how that plays out. Here's the definition I found from some documentation:</li></ul><br><blockquote>The cached option specifies that the removal should happen only on the staging index. Working directory files will be left alone.</blockquote><br>What does that mean?<br><br>If I could get a bottom line on that and a quick run down of how to "rm" my file in light of the errors I'm getting, we'll be set!<br><br>Thanks!&nbsp;
