SCCM Endpoint Protection

If I understand Endpoint Protection is used as AntiMalware and Antivirus.
There is a Role in SCCM for Endpoint Protection to configure Firewall , AntiMalware and Anti Virus  Antipolicies. However I am not sure if there is a Server dedicated for AntiMalware and Anti Virus.

For instance with Trend Micro or Symantec  they are installed on a dedicated server then you  push the agent to clients and you manage pretty much everything from the Trend Micro or Symantec server.

With Endpoint Protection, is SCCM server considered as the AntiMalware and Anti Virus server, just like Trend Micro or Symantec  ?
OR

We need to have a Dedicated Server with Endpoint Protection Role installed on it ?

Thank you
