Yes, I believe you're correct. &nbsp;There's a "personal" and a "work" account that can be defined. &nbsp;I don't know how - I just know that when I sign in the to the Volume License service center, I'm prompted to pick one and depending on which I do, I get different license information. &nbsp;Microsoft really found a way to screw that up. &nbsp;<br><br>Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm interested in your question and I'm following it for ideas from others.

OK. I talked to M$ Support on this. They were unable to detect duplicate accounts at MS but they were able to get around the issue by:<br />
<br />
1.Removing the &nbsp;windows credentials entry for the email account in question<br />
<br />
2.Remove temp files and entries from task manager.<br />
<br />
I also uninstalled all versions of Office and installed the Business version for the portal home page of the account in question. I then rebooted and launched Word. The usual authentication process began and completed successfully. &nbsp;<br />
<br />
All seems to in order now but still not sure about duplicate accounts.

I have a client with an email address like clientname@clientDomain.co<wbr />m. I can log into his Microsoft 365 account with his email password with no issues. <br />
However if I use the same address when setting up a new computer the password is wrong. I was able to &quot;reset&quot; the password and get the new computer setup. Now it appears he has two accounts at Microsoft under the same email address. Not a big issue except his Microsoft 365 account includes the Office desktop subscription. When attempting to activate the desktop version of office Microsoft does not recognize he has a subscription to Office and is requiring that he buy it to get activated. <br />
This experience leads me to believe there are two different accounts at Microsoft that have the same email address. <br />
