The best way to allow computers to check in with Domain

Hello, in light of the Stay at Home Order, a large number of staff are working from home with Domain   check-ins for both Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office fast approaching (not to mention passwords). What would be the best way to safely configure a periodic check-in? Firewalls are Meraki, Sophos and Barracuda.

Agreeing with kevinsieh.
"not to mention passwords" - user passwords will expire at some time, but the offline machine will not care, you can logon forever offline.
I am not seeing it in the benifits but as far as VPN's go, would Google Remote Desktop work once in the tunnel?
GPO then becomes completely useless.  A minor issue, unless we want to change something important, then it becomes a problem.
