Not entirely sure what you're asking. Open Source is just a licensing model - developers license their software using different Models and any of them use the Open Source license which, put very simply allows you to freely use, modify and share their software. PHP itself is open source, as are many of thousands of packages available online, including in the Packagist repo - the main online repo for packages installed by Composer (what usually ends up in the vendor folder). There's a fair chance that all of the packages and libraries in your vendor folder are based on an Open Source license. Laravel is also Open Source (as is WordPress etc).

ANy software can be licensed as Open Source, regardless of the language used. You can get Open Source C/C++ programs, just as easily as PHP ones. It amy be that parts of some applications includes other libraries that may not be Open Source

As far as I know, it is open source. PHP itself is open source, and PHP code doesn't compile (in the traditional sense) so I'm not sure what you mean. Pretty much any library on the Linux OS is open source, and that includes the PHP code.

Might be better to speak in terms of a license - MIT or GPL2 - depending on why you're asking your question.<br />

Regards C#, there are some open source projects + the most robust C# compilers look to be proprietary code... so you get only executables, no source.

The PHP7-4-5 source code available to community to work and develop frameworks/ librares/ ... based on its internal peculiarities and contribute also to make PHP a better language, isn't it?<br />

At first sight it looks a very clean code for those who master C / C ++<br />
that's not my case.<br />

Just a paralell and oposite case:<br />
Several years ago Microsoft discontinued Visual FoxPro and make the users very frustrated, the VFP community claimed them to put it as Open Source, but they didn't accepted the request, unfortunatelly.They even appealed to Bill Gates' remarkable sense of charity, without a chance.<br />
(They only made available VFP code special libraries called Sedna)

Hi, <br><br>Opensource (code is open) allow to edit the code but this not mean it's free (most of the time it is).<br>But there are some script that are opensource but you need to pay a licence to use it or download it.
