How can I use the entire external hard drive?

I have  Seagate 8TB USB3 external hard drive.   I want to use all of it for external backups, but it seems I am limited to 2TB.

Possibly need to re-partition it using GPT rather than the MBR scheme.

See  https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/2581408/windows-support-for-hard-disks-that-are-larger-than-2-tb  and the method described down the bottom.

Note that on XP (obsolescent but still around) it is impossible to use a drive larger than 2 TB due to limitations in Windows itself.

On some systems the BIOS cannot deal with a drive larger than 2 TB but this should not be an issue if the external drive is connected after Windows is already running.
