Word template merge with Lotus Notes document data

I have word templates and would like to programmatically merge with Lotus Notes document field data.  I have seen some older examples of how to accomplish.  I understand will need to create field tags on the word template forms.  I would like these templates to be selected by user and solution written lotusscript so will be merging when user invokes action from client app.  How best to accomplish?
