Search Function in Outlook stopped working

We have an Onsite Exchange 2016 server and until a few days ago everyone was able to search for emails fine in Outlook. Now everyone can not.

On the local PC's we have tried re-creating the profile- rebuilding the index and repairing the profile through scan now and profiler re-builder command, restarting the services on the server, and on the PC. repairing office twice but nothing is allowing the user to search the current folder or mailbox. We have also tried updating office to the latest version and checking for any updates in windows updates but everything is up to date

Interestingly if we turn off "Use Cached Exchange Mode to download email to an Outlook Data File" then they can search without issues, but this is a workaround not a fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Take one workstation and run through some of the fixes here.   If it is across all your workstations I would actually run a repair on the microsoft office installs.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Updating the Registry has solved the issue for us.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Search -> create a new DWORD "DisableServerAssistedSearch" and set the value to "1"
