how to connect 2* gbic between switches to get 10gb connection !

hi,
I got a 2* 10gbase gbic transceiver.
can I just connect this gbic to 2 switches.

and use a ether cable between 2 switches though gbic. will it be good to get 10gb connection ?
can I use any Ethernet cat 5 or 6 cable between the gbic ???

ok. I can’t use cat 5 or 5e because they support only
100mbps and 1000mbps. am I correct ?
 
and I got Dlink DGS 3620-28pc switch
it has 8 sfp ports. can I use all 8 ports for gbic ???
CAT5e is fine.

just checked the spec of DGS 3620-28PC, yes you can do that.

FYI -  it is a managed switch, so technically you can use it built multiple LAN segments (VLANs) to isolate different uplink channels if required.

cat5e supports only 1gbps . not 10gbps I guess
so I can use only cat6 cable if I want 10gbps

 
ya. that’s what planning to do - uplink (trunk port) to existing switch.


i have attached a pic of the switch ports.  - it as 24 normal ports, then it has  spf ports ----   21f/22f/23f/24f/ - 25/26/27/28    .. why 4 ports has "f" in the end ? ?  ? does it mean if i use normal port 21.. i cant use 21f ? ?

I believe last 4 ports are spf+  in the switch model (Dgs 3620-28pc)

before that there are 21f/22f/23f/24f - are they sfp port ?? combo sfp ports. does it mean u can either 21 normal port or 21f ? I can’t use both. am I correct ?


and does 10gbase gbic - can i use it in sfp port for 1gbps ??  does it support 1gbps as well or just 10gbps ?
Looks like the SFP+ ports are for stacking.

The virtual stack can include units located anywhere on the same network domain, and uses optional 10-Gigabit uplinks to move intra-stack traffic at 20 Gbps full duplex speeds.

So it would appear that you are limited to 1gig ports for host traffic.

how do I confirm sfp+ port is used for Stacking only ??

and can I use the 10gbase gbic in sfp port ?? will it work backwards for 1gbps as well ?

While I can't find anything that specifically states the 10g ports are for stacking only, in my experience when the marketing and datasheets only reference the ports for one specific function, that's usually the only thing you can use them for.  So while it's entirely possible those 10g ports could be connected to host devices, I would not count on it. 
You can use the SFP+ ports for stacking or uplinks, so you can use them for hosts if they have a compatible NIC/SFP+.

What model are the SFPs you have?
5e cables do work for 10Gb connections if the cables are reasonably short. even regular Cat5 might work. note that there is no clear 10Gb industry standard so things just may or may not work.

if stacking is easy and available, there is little point in using a regluar link

if for some reason, you cannot use the 10Gb or find out it is not worth the extra bucks, you can turn to link aggregation. unless the network has specifics such as iscsi mounts across multiple switches, chances are aggregating between 2 and 4 links would be enough to cope with the interswitch traffic. this can be setup using regular cables.
