Excessive app process stops on Samsung Android 4.4.2 devices

I have two Android 4.4.2 devices (Samsung Galaxy CORE LTE (Model SM-G386W, 16 GB), and Samsung Tab 3 tablet (Model SM-T210R). In each of these, I have relatively recently been suffering from an excessively high rate of ["App-name" has stopped. Do you wish to close it? - Wait, Report, OK] occurrences. For my cell phone, the situation is so bad, much of the time, that "Play Store Process" remains displayed for very many cycles before I have to remove and replace the battery to be able to shut down the device. Fortunately, the Tab 3 does not suffer from that same type of failure.
During these COVID-19 stay-at-home times, I understand why the processing performances of each continue to be abysmally slow.
Please advise if my problem is one shared by many other Android 4.4.2 users, or whether it may relate to the old age of my cell phone (but the Tab 3 is relatively newer).
BTW, I could not see how to open a new post on this website (I still have one open post).
Appreciatively,

Hi Bruce,

I'd say it probably does a have a lot to do with the age of your devices and the age of the OS. Current version of Android is 11 and 4.4.2 was released 7 years ago. Google only supports OSes for about 3 years.

Something you can try to do is free up some space on your phone to see if that helps performance at all.

In regards to your other comment about opening a new post? What do you mean by that? I see you have one other open quesiton.

Thanks for your expeditious response.
BTW, I now understand that just entering a question initiates the new post process.
With respect to the impact of the age of my two Samsung devices, I cannot  believe that I could not have been provided with updates to the Android OS beyond version 4.4.2, when the current version is 11!
The problems with the stop processes only began this year. Have there been any reports of a Google update(s) been the root cause of many such related problems?
I will delete some of the storage contents from my cellphone (16 GB), but i am not using much of the Tablet storage.
Does the current extremely high utilization of the Internet and related provider services capacities provide any explanation for the overall drastically reduced performances of all of my digital devices (including a MacBook Pro Mid-2012 OS 10.10.5, and iPad Air 2 iPadOS 13)?
FYI, I am in the midst of upgrading my Cogeco Internet service to 1 GHz, but the process is so slow because of delivery delays with the requisite new cable modem (Hitron CODA-4589), and need to finally provide a coax cable connector unlocking tool, that was not provided with the new cable modem!

The other devices on your network shouldn't have an effect on the errors you are getting on your Android devices. Also the speed of your network should have an effect.

I run into the same issue with one of the apps on my newer phone. The app itself may not be optimized which could be the cause. Since you are using an old version of Android this also means the apps may not have been updated for quite a while. As the code becomes older and out of date it means it may not work as well. I suggested clearing up some space in case that might help performance a bit, but I really think it boils down to your phone being an older model and the lack of support is starting to break things.
Even for the flagship models for major brands like Samsung, you will only have two versions of Android OS updates.

There are extensive work to do for a version update. Do not expect there will be any update for low end Android phone as the hardware spec is too low to run newer Android OS. Normally, an Android phone will be obsolete after 2 years after its launch and you need to replace your phone with a newer model.

If you must keep this phone, there are two things you have to do.

  1. Got a new battery.
  2. List out what apps you MUST use.
Thanks again Jackie Man.
Given that I have already tried to replace the battery some time ago, but Amazon sent the supposedly valid replacement (after I had provided the detailed contents from my current battery); regrettably, the physical size was too long on the vertical side to fit into the cell phone! I have not re-tried since that unpleasant experience.
I cannot indulge the current excessive continuous stoppages, particularly since I have missed several incoming telephone calls because the system has been locked on the "Play Store process" stoppage cycle.
I have attempted to remove many apps previously downloaded from either the Galaxy Store or the Google Play Store; however, in many cases it appears that many apps can only be "disabled", with updates uninstalled!
Therefore, I will be replacing the Samsung out-dated phone with an i-Phone model, given that I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2-12, an IPad Air 2, and a MacBook Pro 2017 (refurbished - newly acquired).
Also, given the poor performance of my Samsung Tab 3 (though not nearly as seriously degraded as my Samsung cell-phone), I obviously cannot continue to use it!

Upgrading your phone is probably the easiest and best solution for the near and long term.

For your Samsung Tab 3, if do you as Jackie suggests and list out what apps you need to use on your tablet. Then I would do a factory reset to clear everything out and just install the basics you'd need to use it for. Since you have an iPad Air 2 the Tab 3 seems a bit redundant.
