SonicWall stuck on connecting...

Our SonciWall VPNs have been working perfectly... then something happened to the modem and Spectrum had to replace it.

VPNs don't work any longer.

Getting "The peer is not responding to phase 1 ISAKMP requests." errors.

I have tried adjusting MTU on the SonicWall and restricting the first ISAKMP packet size as well on the client.

Thoughts?

did your WAN IP change?

WAN IP did change... But I use a service to go around that (you know what I am talking about, but the type of service escapes me at the moment).

Anyway... the DNS name resolves to the correct IP address of the SonicWall and even using the IP address yields nothing but connecting...

the service for DYNAMIC IP registration will not fix the IP in the VPN configuration until the change propagates.

I.e. the other endpoint might be expecting based on the host myhost.somedynamicdns.com
but the IP reflected for that record is the old IP.
versus the new IP.

i.e. while you can lookup (nslookup myhost.somedynamicdns.com) and it shows your current IP.
if the setting is not right, the VPN end point will have to wait until the cached record it has expires before it gets the new information.

Usually, when one end initiates a connection, but the other end sees it coming from a source it is unaware of, it will not respond.

Do you have a person on the other hand through whom you can access the FW?

I can access the FW. Remember that I cannot use the VPN even with the IP address.

On the remote side? This is why I asked whether you can get a person on the other side through whom you'd  be able to access the Firewall on the other side to confirm the setup using the hostname versus the prior IP.

I can access my home side (client) and, using MSP tools, access the server side as well.

check what the VPN setup issues are. Make sure the WAN ip on the other side did not change as well.

Check the error logs to see what might be preventing the setup

on your sonicwall, what is it sending as the identifier?

when a component changes upstream, you may have an entry that does not match.

troubleshoot the VPN connection to see if you can determine where and when it is running into issues.

A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that uses a public telecommunication infrastructure, such as the Internet, to provide remote offices or travelling users access to a central organizational network securely. VPNs encapsulate data transfers using secure cryptographic methods and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.
