Installing CUCM on ESXI Linux

I am trying to install CUCM 10.5 on ESXI 7. I am getting an error saying that incompatible hardware detected.  I am using a Dell PC with an I7 processor. NVIDIA 1050ti. Not sure what could be incompatible. The ESXI is running on my desktop within a VMWorkstation Pro 15.  I am new to Linux and don't have much knowledge. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you produce a screenshot of this message ?

I am getting an error saying that incompatible hardware detected.

It is possible, that you need to select the Expose Intel VT hardware to the VM, in the setup of VMware Workstation VM.

that is an interesting error message, and does not really say anything.

have you got the OVA ?

it could be related to memory, disk, CPU....

Im using an ISO.

I have read that this error is a false error and can be ignored.  I hit ok and am continueing my install. I will update if it is successful.

I was able to finish the actual install process but recieved an error. Im not sure if this is a VM issue or a CUCM issue but below is the error and im not sure how to find out exactly what the issue is.

I dont have a serial port on my pc or any way that i know of to see what the error is.

Okay, that suggest the virtual machine config, is not correct.

e.g. how you configured it, nothing to do with ESXi, you may have got the same issue with VMware Workstation, it could be memory, cpu, disk storage.

What are you settings for this VM ?

Well that's not going to help, because the VM is nested, and no serial ports easily define, and dump info probably rubbish anyway.

if you right click the VM, and select Edit Settings, we can check what specifications you've created.

I am using 110 GB for the actual VM and 16 for the ESXI running on VMWorkstation.  I am really at a loss here. Not sure if it doesnt like the NTP settings that i put in or the CUCM ip address. Before on a seperate server it would stop me at any point when it didnt like something and now it seems just to accept everything until the end and give me an error that i cant decipher.  I dont have any service contracts connected to my Cisco account so i cant download an ova. I have no idea where to go from here.

let me see If I can grab the iso, do you have a link ?

I'll test here in the lab

So i was able to get the ISO to mostly install just using VM Workstation and not installing it on the ESXI VM. Will this work for me? When i do this i am getting an NTP error. I am researching how to make my 2921 an NTP server and will open up a seperate ticket for that.

NTP error is just caused by it cannot get time!

It depends what CUCM was designed for!

I disable windows firewall. I have set the router to what i thought would be correct but i cant get past this error. I do remember years ago when i did this that NTP was a nightmare.

Regarding the serial port you don't need a physical one on your PC, https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.vm_admin.doc/GUID-C6FBCF66-5796-4EE6-BF47-4DCAA9DCD1E3.html tells how to use a file.

I dont have my router connected to the internet. Is it possible to use one from the internet and have that virtual connect to that?

You first need to establish, does this VM have an IP Address, can you ping the CUCM VM ?

Author

Commented:
No, i cant finish install until i fix the NTP issue.

Author

Commented:
Ok so after reinstalling my CUCM i finally got it installed.  It was rejecting my NTP server. I ended up using Googles NTP server address and it took it.

Author
