excel file access audit trail
I'm pretty sure I know the answer but to be 100% sure does an xlsx file itself (quite where I am not sure) capture any information about the number of times its been opened, by who, dates/times etc. And if this info is well hidden within the file are there any easy ways to extract it? I'm asking if its captured by default rather than a custom solution to capture it from now on. it lives on a W2016 file server.

OK I have but it actually didn't contain all the info I was hoping it would/had enquired about. Maybe this is Office version dependant?
Maybe this is Office version dependant?Actually, what you see is what you get. There are a number of properties that could be set for a given file, but only a handful are set automatically. Making matters worse, the Author and Last Modified By names rely on the information entered when Office was installed. If you inherit a computer, that information may point to somebody else.
