convert VMWARE to Hyper-V

Hi Experts,
I am working in a project to migrate many VMs to HYPER-V.
I have some questions regarding this.

1. How can I migrate the VM from VMWARE to HYPER-V ?
2. Is a migration possible without having access to the vcenter ?
3. How long does it take ?
4. What about other ways to migrate ?

Thanks

1. There are a few, Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter, Disk2VHD, Backup and Restore to dissimilar hardware - Acronis, Veeam Free Agent.

I wrote some tutorials about using Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter

HOW TO:  P2V, V2V for FREE to Hyper-V -  Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.1

HOW TO: Convert a physical server or virtual server (P2V/V2V) to Microsoft Hyper-V using Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.1

However,  this was 4 years ago - Microsoft deprecated the tool in 2016.

Disk2VHD

Another Article I wrote using a Veeam free product.

HOW TO: Perform a Physical to Virtual (P2V) Conversion the easy way from a computer backup (image).

2. Yes.

3. How long is a piece of string ? The time taken is based on many variables.

ASKER

Hi,
thanks for info.
I have tested the MVMC from Microsoft. Here we need access to the vcenter.
In our case this is not possible, because of an insourcing project.

Do you agree ?
MVMC does use vCenter Server, but I've posted other methods which do not.

So no vCenter no MVMC, use another method.
please can you tell me which one I can use without vcenter access ?

You can use Veeam (you get a 60 day  fully functional trial)

</p>
ok I will look into it.
Maybe you have a link from VEEAM to see it in a video ?
If you want to use Veeam, you will need to setup Veeam backup server first and install both ESXi agent and Hyper-V agent on source/destination hosts.

Then you will need to backup the VMware VMs and restore it on Hyper-V host.

It is not a simple solution but that's reliable.

Check out here for video guide, but you will need to watch quite a lot of topics to make the things done: https://www.veeam.com/how-to-videos.html
