Cannot install wireless HP 7640 printer

Last Modified: 2020-10-10
I've tried to install and uninstall this wireless printers numerous times to no avail.  I can print to it via a USB printer cable but when trying to install the software from HP, it simply stalls and eventually quits.  No error message other than install failed.  I've tried setting the IP address of the printer to manual but that did not help either.  I know my router is fully functional and the printer sees the router successfully.  I just cannot make the computer (W10 Home) and the printer to work wirelessly.  Your help and suggestions are appreciated.

After you have the printer connected to wireless, check the IP address and point your web browser at it.  Does it find the web interface for the printer?

Paul Sauve, I watched the video and tried that approach.  Did not work.
tankergoblin, the printer does see the SSID.  PW was entered and printer says connnected.
The IP address of the printer is 192.168.50.50 and when trying to go to that address, I do not see the web interface.

Try to ping the address to see whether it is ping able. Since you are connected suppose you should able to print. try to print test page see what happen. If cannot print did your receive any error message? go to printer status to see the status of the printer.

That is a fundamental problem.  What are the IP address and netmask of your computer (ipconfig from a CMD prompt will tell you that)?

"and the printer sees the router successfully. ": how did you determine this?

I was wrong about NOT seeing the interface when using a browser and keying the IP address.  Here is what I see.

Yes. More than once. My next step is to try installing the HP printer app on a different system and see if it will install OK. If it installs OK wirelessly And connects and prince, then this is a specific system problem. Both systems are windows 10 home.  I should know this within the next hour.

OK...different system.  Installed HP Envy app and it worked fine wirelessly.   Therefore, we know that this is not a printer issue.  This is definitely a system issue associated with my "other" W10 H system.  It is not a distance from the router issue.  Printer is showing excellent signal strength.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Envy app several times to no avail.  Short of doing a OS reload, I don't know what else to try.  I have run sfc/scannow and it found no integrity issues with the system files.  Ideas?

Are you using the 2004 release of Windows 10?  If so, take a look at this:
