My Office Chair Starts Randomly Sinking While I'm sitting in it!!! Why is this happening? How to Fix?

I have a really expensive office chair --of course, no longer under warranty-- and now when I sit in it, it starts to randomly sink.  I stand up, adjust the height. Sit down.  After a few minutes, it starts sinking again.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
HOW DO I FIX THIS?

Reason:  The pneumatic shock inside the vertical support cylinder has a slow leak.

Solution:  Buy a replacement chair.  The faulty part is welded in and is not replaceable.  This time get a chair with a twistable height adjustment instead.  Most secondhand stores have a decent supply of office chairs.

Alternatively, take the chair to a local welder and have them tack-weld the vertical support so it can't move.  But the chair will be at that height forever, so make sure it's the right height.
or, as MY wife suggested to me when this happened - lose some weight!
