Troubleshooting Question

Word Press Site Dead

I have a WordPress site that is "dead"; get a blank page on opening: www.rain1.com

The host did some checking, found the attached. I note that the javascript is referring to "msie" which I'm guessing is a reference to Microsoft Internet Explore. Is that possibly outdated? Should I try upgrading the theme (Bee?). Not sure how to do that; I can get at wp-admin.

This is urgent. Any ideas welcome ASAP.

Thank you

Checking with another theme is always a good first step to check whether your site can be up again soon (in worst case, even the default themes shipped with Wordpress).

After it works again, you can get a newer similar theme and adjust it to your liking.

Mohit, says not down. So I suppose technically it isn't. Go to it www.rain1.com. It is all blank.
Kimputer - I have no idea what you are talking about. I need site up NOW!!

Again, should I try to upgrade the theme to the latest version? It has a Child theme, as I recall, the reason for the child theme is because if the main theme upgrades, it auto synchs the Child Theme, yes?

Thanks,

Richard

Yes, upgrade themes, reload site in another browser.
If not working apply another theme, reload site, see if it gets up yet.

It looks like it is redirecting to https://www.rain1.com/new-site/

Scott,

It is, that is correct. That's where the site "really" is.

The error is pointing this code browser detection
https://www.rain1.com/new-site/wp-content/themes/bee/js/custom.theme.js?ver=1
if( (jQuery.browser.msie == true && parseInt(jQuery.browser.version) < 9) ) {}else{
         jQuery('#navi>div>ul>li').css('margin-left','0')
}
I think this is because the jquery version is too old too v1.12.4

lenamtl,

I have having the host install the LATEST version (Aug. 10, 2020) of the theme right now. This all comes from the theme, right?

Is v1.12.4 too old or is that the current?

Thanks,
Richard

Hi, from https://api.jquery.com/category/deprecated/

we can see what is deprecated by version
There is no data for 1.2
but we can see that for 1.3
jQuery.browser is deprecate (the code pointed in the console error)

if( (jQuery.browser.msie == true && parseInt(jQuery.browser.version) < 9) ) {}else{          jQuery('#navi>div>ul>li').css('margin-left','0') }

As now jQuey is v3 I would use at least jQuery v2 you may need to use jQuery migrate
https://github.com/jquery/jquery-migrate/tree/1.x-stable#readme
https://github.com/jquery/jquery-migrate/#readme

Maybe the best option is to use a brand new theme, there are a tons on themeforest.

Part of the issue is

#header_wrap, #footer_wrap, #main, #sidebar {
    opacity: 0;
}

Go through https://www.rain1.com/new-site/wp-content/themes/bee/style.css  and start taking things off one by one to pinpoint more.

Between opacity or display:none you will find the solution.

Maybe I'm out of touch, but using a brand new theme is a MAJOR overhaul, take days if not weeks.

We need site live today.
