Question on installed apps after removing a Windows Domain from the computer
Hi Experts!
I have to change the password of a user and the computer that she is working on was in domain. So I need to remove the domain from a computer (this PC was on site and connected to a domain and due to the pandemic the user will be working from home).
I know how to remove the domain, create a new user and done, but my worries are the apps and configurations that are install under this user in this computer while in located in site; most importantly, Microsoft Office 2019
When I create a new user, then I will move her Documents contents from user/domain to the new user/workgroup.
The user wants to keep working as is without or with little change.
What is the best way to go about this?
(the computer is w10pro)

- What will happen to installed apps and configuration under the user/domain?
- In other words, when I remove the domain and set the new workgroup name, will some apps be unavailable or not functional.?

Will this eventually (when the pandemic is past... I can be optimistic!) move back to the domain? If so, just keep logging in as if it is connected. It will continue to authenticate with the last password that was used when on the domain.

Seth,
CompProbSolv,
Jazz,
I was told MSO 2019 is user-dependent, which mean if out of the domain installed, MSO would not work, so that's not case?
CompProbSolv,
I need to change the password but not loose configuration.
Jazz,
That makes sense, but Foresit is free?
"MSO 2019 is user-dependent":
Which license do you have? Retail, volume, Office 365, or?

I don't see why you would remove the computer from the domain. It will continue to function indefinitely disconnected form the domain.
@kevinhsieh:
I suggested the same, but the author wants to change the password

CompProbSolv,
kevinhsieh,
The version is Microsoft Office Profesional Pluis 2019
kevinhsieh,
I need to change the password and without connected to the domain, I can't - to change, have to remove domain - (thats reason).

CompProbSolv,
Seth,
Make sense using a local account.
No, this computer will not be getting connected back to the domain.
Seth,
don't know how is the licensing, but how would make a difference? (please elaborate)
Regarding ForensIT — I have only used the paid Corporate Edition version. The User Profile Wizard Personal Edition is free though too. Otherwise, perhaps other Experts can offer suggestions on capturing settings.

Then that's this case. The user can use the Office though not connected.
Going to proceed to test if another user login and if all ok with ms products.

Worked! Seems ok! The MSO products worked when login as another user. Since login as user of non-domain, I had login as ComputerName\Jana. worked! I can use MSO products!
So to close this question; seems it's ok to remove the domain from this PC - when I do that that, is it possible that an apps failed to run since the computer is no longer in a domain?
(I just don't want surprises after I remove the domain)

The MSO products worked when login as another user.
of course it will work
did you check if you are using KMS or MAK?
if you have KMS, eventually office will stop working when disconnected from the network and can't find the KMS server when time to check in again

Thanx Seth!
No, no KMS because I have used the PC without internet and worked fine.
