Depending on the hardware you're using, there is a high probability that the vendor (for example HP) provides some utilities and drivers for that device that will include basic document scanning. &nbsp;So you can often get that from the Support area of the vendors website.<br />

I have no idea whether or not they still sell hand held scanners these days but they were a pain as you had to stitch the passess together. <br />

I think the author is trying to use his webcam or other imaging device as a scanner. &nbsp;The reality is you really need hardware to do this.<br />
The document will now be an image so if you want text then you have to use optical character recognition software. This is another topic in itself
