Plain Text Editor For Mac OSX
What is a current plain text editor for Mac that is pure plain text and does not contain hidden formatting?
As example, in Windows there is Notepad and Wordpad. Wordpad is bad because it allows text formatting and pasting to it from word carries over word's hidden formats. Notepad works well because it is only text.
I have not had a mac since 2015 so a bit out of touch and need to suggest a text editor.

This is for somebody else, I don't have a Mac myself I am running into issues with copy and pasting to a WYSIWYG and want to suggest an easy to use and free text editor that can be used for putting together paragraphs with links but not hide any funky formatting.

oh, this is for non-technically inclined, so it has to be easy to install.

Well, after spending six weeks struggling with iptables on Debian, I consider one download and three lines at command level to be easy. I see what you mean, though.

Thanks, I am aware of BBEdit, it has actually been around for a long time and used to be part of dreamweaver when it was macromedia.

vi + nano best for complex edits or automated edits.
In vi, type :set list to show all non-printable characters. I use this a lot to find + remove oddball characters.

David, thanks for clarifying about BBEdit.
What I was able to find is using TextEdit that comes with Mac and using "Make plain text" and BBEdit as the alternative.

Having started working with UNIX... on a mag tape... loaded onto a PDP11... around 1981ish...
The old vi program was all that was available.
Even though learning vi is... an adventurous decent into Dante's 9th Level of Hell...
The old vi + :set list trick still works like a charm for showing non-printable characters... which are the source of many an oddball problem...
Having started working with UNIX... on a mag tape... loaded onto a PDP11... around 1981ish...

I would caution, however, that if you use nano to any extent you will find yourself typing ^K and ^W in other programs, with usually undesirable consequences.
