Secure Home Internet with Key Features

Hi,
could you advice a nice device / app (paid or free) to secure internet with key features.

  1. Control internet up time. So kids can go to sleep on time :)
  2. Block domains, url, etc. so we can stay safe.
  3. at the same time, very safe to use this device or app :)

Right now I have 50Mbps internet speed, have samsung SmartThings WiFI Hub, and Installed Plume app (I dont have any plume device) which does a decide job. I was able to control internet up time. But not able to block domain.

Is there a way to use Internet Service Provider admin console to blacklist domain and url?
This is the modem provided by the internet company

please suggest

Dear enthuguy ,

I think you should think about install firewall to your internet connection , why firewall ?

with adding firewall to your network you have alot of benefits for example url filtering , internet scheduling , application control , antivirus , bandwidth control , logging , reporting and too many extra features .

1- url filtering : you can specify what web categories are allowed and which categories denied ( pornography , bandwidth consuming , games , drugs ....etc )
2- Internet scheduling : you can specify time for using internet for some users or groups
3- Application control : allow or deny specific application ( skype , facebook , youtube ...etc )
4- Antivirus
5- Bandwidth control : you can set bandwidth limit for some users , group , application
6- monitoring user activities

there is too many good options for firewalls ( fortigate , Sonicwall , Paloalto , pfsense ..etc )

another option , if your kids using andorid devices you should think about google family link

Thanks a lot for your quick suggestions Mohammed. Very informative! Google link is really cool :)

Looks like fortigate is a hardware device and I assume it will sit in front of my existing modem. So we all connect through this device?

please correct me if I was wrong

yes you are correct , each traffic will go through firewall before existing to internet :)
You could run a VM like NXFilter. It can run on a Raspberry Pi.
Thanks Mohammad
Thanks some one
Personally, I like Untangle.  Home version is pretty cheap and all inclusive.  Reporting is excellent.  And among other industries, they target schools so it's intended to "protect" kids.

The product can be installed and tried for 2 weeks on a VM or most old computers if you add a second network card to them.  Or you can buy one of their devices.
Net Nanny software provides full support and detailed access options for all users. The average user does not need hardware access modifications.
