Excel 2016 How to delete odd graphic characters
I inherited a worksheet with a bunch of strange characters which I was not able to delete. I have had to cut and cut and cut.
(see video).
There must be a better way to delete these odd objects.

try copy the whole sheet by selecting the cells to be copied and then paste it into a new sheet with values only (Paste Special > Values) , repeat it to paste the Format, etc when it's necessary.

D'oh?
These are shapes with MSO images. Why they are there? Who knows... ask the guy you got it from.
For getting rid of them:
Just copy the range with your data and paste values only into a new sheet.
