Replacing a Windows 10 HDD with SDD

Hi All -
I have a Windows 10 PC in a Tower case with a 1TB Spindle drive in it.
I want to ADD a 1TB SDD drive, and copy everything over from Spindle to SSD.
I can install both drives in the case at the same time.
Can anyone advise the best way to do this?
(I am thinking ... Can I successfully clone the HDD onto the SSD, --OR-- do I install Win-10 on the SSD & Re-Install all the Apps & copy over all the User Data, or?)
I want to end up with SSD as Boot drive and leave Spindle drive in there as a secondary empty D: drive

It depends on you. You can clone the HDD to SSD so you can save some time. Then you simply erase the HDD.

If you run the current system for a longer time, I would consider installing the system from scratch.
Make an image of HDD and then install SDD disk and reboot your PC with image tool(USB OR DVD).
Restore imsge on new disk.
Many SSD brands come with a cloning software, which makes it pretty easy to move from HDD to SSD. Some allow for online copy, and complete the remainng changes for the image on shutdown.Since copying over 1TB from HDD will last, that's a good feature, reducing the time offline to a few minutes.
Offline copies are done faster, though, but the system needs to be offline - as the name says :-).
There is no need for the USB detour and additional hardware, both disks can be attached to SATA at the same time here.
and in case you have an ssd without cloning software - there are free softwares on the net :
pick the one you like here :
