PowerPoint and Other Presentations - How Many Minutes Should be Spent on each Slide in a Lecture?

In giving a lecture, what are the rules of thumb guiding how many minutes should be spent  per slide during a class?

I want to ensure I don't have too many slides to go through... or too few.

Useful links on this topic would be appreciated.

Nice links Echo :-) I took a look at Garr's article which links to a Lessig example in Flash, which I can't view in my bowser, so here's another on YouTube (viewers may or may not agree with the content!).

In an extreme case I once built a deck that had a sequence of around 100 slides that showed in a matter of seconds to tell an animated story so there never will be a rule for this.
Thanks, Jamie! I didn't even think about it being Flash, duh.
