Adobe Lightroom Classic Mac Imports two different sizes of photos from iPhone

Last Modified: 2020-10-25
User has iMac, Mac OS X Catalina 10.15.6
Latest version of Lightroom Classic
iPhone 11 with latest iOS

Whenever they import photos from the iPad connected to USB, they import 2 different versions of each photo, with different aspect ratios.  One with 4032 x 3024, and a second with 4032 x 2268.

Why is this happening?  The second photo looks like a cropped version of the first.

Thanks.

Your Camera settings has HDR selected with the option "Keep Normal Photo". That's why you have 2 versions. The normal one, and the HDR one. If you have enough storage, keep it like this. If you don't, turn of the option I mentioned.
However, when you make a mistake (keeping it HRD, while the scene doesn't call for it), your picture is forever unrecoverable, with only a failed HDR version on your phone.
Alternatively, disable HDR, but the same goes again, if you could have a magical HDR version of a scene, now you'll never know if it was possible.

Forgive my ignorance, but the iPhone settings don't have an option to "Keep Normal Photo' that I could see in settings.
I looked at the Lightroom Classic preferences, and didn't see that either.

Disable Smart HDR, take ONLY ONE picture, use Lightroom again, see if the newest pic is displayed only once (so the change took effect), or still has 2 pictures.
