How do I remediate/troubleshoot "Impaired" EBS volumes ?
Immediately after launching an EC2 instance today, I noticed the instance was pretty much locked in a "pending" status (Can't shut down/power on/terminate/etc. as all options are now greyed out). I noticed an alert stating 1 or both attached volumes may be impaired. Looking at the volumes tab, the volumes are continually spinning with no attached instance name tied to them, and the only operational option I seem to have is Force Detach, which prompts a nasty red warning (I backed off at that point).
Has anyone seen this behavior? I'd prefer to preserve the instance/volumes/data, if possible.
