hi, I just installed all new ink for hp 7612 printer but nothing prints out when I run several print tests. there's no errors referencing the print heads. haven't used this printer in a long time but only used it for a few print jobs in the past.

Most printers have a function to print test bars or some sort of proof of life/function on the actual printer itself.

Check your manual to see if your printer has this function.

This will tell you if there's a printer problem or a computer -> printer connection problem.

Yes.

HP 7612 has a "Printer Status Report" function which will tell you if printer will print anything at all.

Try this first.

I actually ran this test several times going from one level to the next on the test and it printed very light almost indistinguishable lines and when I ran the test again it produced blank pages.

This means something is wrong with your printer.

If your ink capacity shows high, likely this means the print head requires cleaning or replacing.

If the printer was working well... long ago... then fails now, go through the print head cleaning process, which usually means soaking the print surfaces (where ink flows through) with isopropyl alcohol.

And... only clean print heads based on manufacturer's instructions, as the solvent they suggest will match your ink.

If you use some incompatible solvent, then you may have other problems.

One other trick that works well sometimes is print a graphic with large bars of solid colors closing matching your ink colors.

This causes jets to flush huge amounts of ink through the print head, re-saturating dried out ink wicks (cloth ink transfer material).

Generally, I always to this first when I have a print head problem, as pulling print heads out of computers can be a serious pain.

Ok thanks will try your large graphics trick first. Agree that pulling out print heads is cumbersome

Ok so I used 3 different color chalks to make bars on paper and used copier function to print and had slight improvement then ran 3 levels of print head cleaning within hp print utility itself and kept progressively improving quality and at this point the print quality went from zero to 50 to 100% quality so ink flow is good. Problem is I can’t connect printer to router wirelessly. Tried using wps by pressing button on router for 3 seconds but printer simply could not connect to router. Also tried using PIN number entry on router settings but no good. At this point I’m just glad it can print using copy feature. Worse case scenario I can connect printer directly to laptop via usb if need be since I only print about 10 pages a year.

Very early inkjets had to be exercised at least once a week or bacteria would build up and clog the jets  http://jproc.ca/rrp/index.html

probably the heads are blocked with ink.
what i did to revive them was this ; ( if you can remove the print heads )
i take a piece of kitchen paper, and wet it; you can use water, or warm water if you like - then i clean the print heads
or i put 1/2 cm water in a basin and put he heads in it with printing surface down in the liquid for an hour or so

***since i do not print very often, i had this clogging problem frequently. that is why i bought a color laserjet  - never had that problem again

To fix the connectivity issue make sure your network wireless uses WPA encryption
Then on the printer control panel reset the network settings to factory
Settings > Restore Network Defaults > Yes
Then go back to WPS or PIN entry

David Johnson brings up a good point.

Some early printers had a hard time maintaining consistent quality, due to ink wicking material couple with actual ink.

These printers required continual maintenance.

I'm remembering very old printers required printing a color bar file once/week to keep quality at max.

That was a very long time ago.

If this printer is very old, might be time to think about upgrading, because these old printers also tended to be very expensive to run, in terms of ink replacement frequency.

Agree, when I replaced the ink cartridges for the hp 7612 I spent 80 dollars altogether and at the time I was debating whether to just get a new epson printer that uses the new ink bottles instead of ink cartridges and these last for like 2yrs and print heads don’t get clogged even if you don’t print for an extended period of time. It was 195 dollars. I will probably get it soon.
