Moto G5 Plus loses Bluetooth connection

Every couple of weeks, my phone loses its Bluetooth connection to my car, in a strange way.

I usually notice the problem when someone calls me. The car lets me pick up the call, but keeps using the phone's speaker and microphone. As a result, the only way to continue the call is to drag  the phone out of my pocket, put it on speaker, and talk that way.

If I switch the phone off, it will work again for a couple of weeks.

Here's what I have tried so far:
A different model car
A network reset on the phone.

I could do a factory reset but, as the phone is more than 4 years old, I might as well bite the bullet and get a new one. The Moto G8 Plus looks excellent and cheap.

However, the current phone still does everything I want, so, before I shell out money, I thought I'd check to see if anyone here has any suggestions for fixing the problem.

The phone is a Lenovo Moto G5Plus (XT1685). It is running Android 8.1.0 which is the latest OS version available for it. It has 4GB RAM, 32 GB storage and a 32GB SD card.

Hi,

You can try to reset the apps preferences and clear it's cache:

Settings --> Applications --> tap the tree dots on the upper right --> Reset app preferences.

Then force stop the application and clear cache:

Applications --> Bluetooth Share --> Force Stop/ Storage --> Clear cache

Cheers

Wouldn't a network reset have done this? It certainly forced me to re-link the phone to the car.
I think you mean "factory reset", and yes that includes EVERYTHING.
You did all you can, it's probably a bug in the BT software routines on the phone, which WON'T be solved due to the age of the phone.
Save money, and turn off phone every now and then, or shell out money for a newer model. Your choice. Though to prevent software update problems for an extra year, choose a model that's JUST been released, not a one year old phone (meaning also one year less updates available).
Tip. Samsung Galaxy A51 or A71, budget phones with 3 guaranteed Android upgrades (meaning possibly up to 5 years, if you include security updates, coming after the 3 full Android updates)
Motorola only has 2 years guaranteed total.

@kimputer No it was not a factory reset, only a network reset.
However, your suggestion of switching the phone off regularly is a good one. I might start doing that at night.

Hi,

A network reset won't clear the app cache. Factory reset will but you stated in your question that you haven't done that yet.

Of course, but rather than going through all the trouble of making sure everything is backed up, before a factory reset, I'd prefer to get a new phone. That way I'll get something for my effort.
Hi,

My first post is not a factory reset. It just enables you to clean out the bluetooth app caching so it won't do harm on any of  your data.

Cheers

@dfke I went to resetting app preferences. Before I did the reset I looked through my apps, and I cannot find "Bluetooth Share", or anything that seems related to it. So I did not go ahead with the app preference reset.

@Kimputer's suggestion is the easiest for now, until I get a new phone.
