Windows 10 Pro printers going offline recently

Last Modified: 2020-11-10
We seem to be having a spate of occurrences where networked printers go offline.
I see the "printer offline" greyed out. (And not checked).
All of these have been working fine for a long time heretofore.
I've read that this suggests a communication error but the computer can ping the printer consistently.
It doesn't seem to matter which version/build of Windows 10 Pro is in use.  We have both 1909's nd 2004's at the least.  Yet, the problems seem they could be update related somehow(??).
We've done the rather drastic step of completely removing the printer and that works .. for a while .. and then the problem reappears.
I'm looking for suggestions as this is pretty disruptive to operations.
