Hi I watch YouTube or Udemy, but sometime suddenly the show stopped. when i went back to watched the video that i had just watched, it would still take longer time for the show to come up. I remember if we enable something like cache, the browser would directly go to the cache to pick up the visited data that just had been visited if internet has connection issue like slow or down. Now I am using windows 8. How to resolve the issue? Thank you

when one designs a website one configures items that are cacheable and the browser will store a copy in it's cache and will check if the content has expired or was modified  This doesn't work very well for video in which only a sliding window of the data to be displayed is actually in the browser. (generally called streamed content)
The size of the cache is browser dependant.. so which browser are you using?

Thank you so much for your fast reply. I use google chrome. Can we increase the size of cache? Is other browser able to work well?

you have to launch Chrome with an argument i.e.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" -disk-cache-size-2147483648

Hi
What David mentioned is correct, you may also do like this:
  • Right-click on the Google Chrome icon on the desktop
  • Select Properties
  • Under Shortcut Tab, find the Target field.
  • Add the text --disk-cache-size=536870912 after the chrome.exe.
  • (Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disk-cache-size=536870912. This will alter the cache size to 512Mb. You can increase upto 2Gb. Just multiply the Mb with 1024 two times. For 100 Mb, multiply 100x1024=102400. again multiply 102400x1024=104857600. You will add this number there as bytes)

Streaming video would not be cached. But most of the sites such as Udemy, Youtube, Primevideo etc, 'remembers' where you have stopped and help to restart from the point you have stopped last time, if you have logged in with their account. It is also working even over multiple devices. That's a good thing.

Yes, you are right. After that, I cannot see the cache change. Please see below. Is this a command to show cache?

memcache = memory cache and has to do with your cpu not chrome
