What about one that is only used during year-end processing that makes a 15 hour process run in 1 hour? If you remove that index because it is only used once a year, you can greatly impact performance next time that job runs.
yeah you are right! I will let developer to verify it before it drop, as simple as this!
DBA here usually do not know this logic as developer will not tell DBA.
so brent first response kit to generate the index for add and drop and let developer review it should be the fastest way ?

btw, what is your best way to find missing index and add it accordingly ? and how about unused index (it hurts Write operation, so we must be able to do it.
