Cannot save Illustrator banner in GIF format

I create a banner using Illustrator. I need to save it in GIF format. However, I do not see that save option.

Or use the "export" option, rather than "save" option.
As I recall, "export" is the preferred method (works for all image types).
You can also use ImageMagick to do your conversions, to convert between any 2x formats.

Don't use 'save as'. Use 'save for web' option and select the GIF and color depth you want (upto 256).
