Email server issues -ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

We use MDaemon for email. Yesterday our email stopped. Our email server is a VM machine on a Hyper-v host. The host server had installed wsus patches and needed to reboot. I went ahead and rebooted the host, figuring that would resolve the issue. It took a while for the host to come back up. Once it did, I check the Host and the email server. Everything looks ok. Then tried to test email. We use it through a browser for the most part. So I open a browser and typed the website address, mail.abbe-lib.org. It's doesn't load and I get the ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED message. Tried a different browser, a different computer.. same message. I can log into the mail server. but can't load the page. Users who have it set up on their phones with an app can still get incoming mail and send emails outside of our email. However, if you try to email one of our accounts, you get a cannot send mail message That reads, the server rejected one of the recipient's addresses. The message has been placed in your outbox. I can also send it from inside my ServiceDesk software as long as it is to an outside address.

Any input would be helpful.

Regards,
DJ

It is a VM based on Windows Server 2016? Not the HOST but the GUEST that runs MDaemon.

Both are Windows 2012r2 servers.
Please check the MDaemon Services are Running. Please also check there are any Records in the Application or System Logs. If MDaemon fails it should record something in Windows Logs (Application mainly but check the System too).
The Web Page you are trying to open is hosted on the same SERVER or another SERVER? Is it running IIS or Apache? Check if they are running.
How do I see if they are running? i don't see either under services.
Note: Scanning this site only shows an SMTP server running.

There is no port 80 or port 443 listener, so you'll never be able to access this machine with a browser... unless... only your IP is allowed to access these ports (via firewall rule).

Thus you'll always get an ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED message in a browser, until you startup a Webserver on this machine or open a firewall exception for your local IP, to access this machine.
No Service named MDaemon?
This email server has been running this way for years..and we have always accessed it through a browser.
