Troubleshooting Question

Need a new Premiere Pro "view" of my 5GB Project

I need to make a modified version of an existing 1 hour and 30 minute video project but do not want to copy any of the "assets", due to the large size: 5GB. I need to create individual MP4's for various sections of the full video, and may need to face the music at the end of each section.

Can I simply copy the .prproj file? Then, make edits to that project file?

What would happen if I created a new .prproj file in the same folder? Pointing at the same assets?
