As noted above, there is no such feature. As an alternative solution, you can use Microsoft OneNote which brings many additional features and it's free. I recommend it.

Hi,

In Notepad++, for saving files is it better to use backups or autosave plugin?

Can you send me the link to the best Autosave plugin to use with Notepad++?

Thanks,
Robbie

I said Notepad++ because it can do it all by itself, plain install, no extras needed.

I only saw one "AutoSave" plug-in, did you see more?

I pulled down the 64 bit most recent version from this link and placed it in a folder named "AutoSave" under the Notepad++\plugins folder.  Seems to work.

Hi,

Does Notepad++ do a backup of the files or the session?

If I cancel or remove an unsaved file from the session in Notepad++, would the data be lost?

Yeah, we would be interested an auto-save plugin. What would you recommend?

Thanks,
Robbie
I guess OneNote is out of play...
If you have backups enabled in the session via Settings as I showed above, then yes, NP++ will save a copy of the open files periodically.

But once you close them in NP++, it will ask you if you want to save your changes.  Once you close the file it removes the backup it had in its work folders and that is gone.

If you use the AutoSave add-in, then you can have NP++ update the original file periodically when you are making edits.  Those naturally won't be lost when you exit NP++ or close that file.

Make sense?

Agreed, since the author seems to need to work on TXT files stored in folders.

Hi,

I think that has cleared up things for me on Notepad++.

Would OneNote work as a solution also?

1. Does it auto-save files?
2. Is it free or do we require Microsoft subscription?
3. Can we use it offline on our desktop rather than online?

Thanks,
Robbie
1. Does it auto-save files?
Sure.

2. Is it free or do we require Microsoft subscription?
It's free.

3. Can we use it offline on our desktop rather than online?
You can use it offline as a desktop app and these notes will be accessible from the web as well.
A lot of people; and I'm one; find OneNote's paper notebook metaphor too cumbersome and clunky. And it has a useless tagging system.

I'd go with Dropbox Paper. It's free, even to non-paying Dropbox users, it's great for sharing, and it's compatible with Mac, iOS, Windows, and - I think - Android. also accessible online. Its tags work well online and on Desktop apps, but not so good on mobile apps.

It's continually backed up during use.
