Need to unlock admin account

Hello,

I have a Windows 2012 server, I was locked out of the admin account for putting the wrong password in too many times. I want to unlock the account. I am still logged in to a workstation as this account. Is it possible to unlock from the workstation?

You can simply wait.

If this is an AD server you are logged on, you should be able to change the policy, unlock the password, or tick that a password never expires.

hello,

This is easy you just need to windows server 2012 CD to boot from it and follow step by step the below link

Elie, I was hoping to avoid that. Is there any known way to do it from the workstation that I am logged in to?
if that is a domain admin account, you have enough privileges to unlock yourself. you can do that by looking yourself up in the ad and a right click. you will need to access the ad remotely using the mmc
Try to login with your account to another PC of its ok try to install active directory management tool on windows 10. Try to reset your account password.
You should always create several Admin account and always check the lock out policy on gpo

Just to reiterate, I can't get into the server with the account as it is locked. I am still logged in to a workstation with that account.

Thanks!
run mmc on the workstation.

select add snnapin and add the ad management

select remote computer. and the server

do the job

hopefully, your existing kerberos token will work
Hi Skull,

I am in mmc, there is no option for AD management snapin, does the snapin go by another name?
Thanks. I ran the install but it is prompting for a reboot....

It also doesn't look like it is showing anything until the reboot, if I reboot, I wont be able to log back in as this admin user.
What is the lockout duration?
Your last chance is to reset your password, through the windows media CD. Since you don't know what is applied for account lockout on the gpo
you can run the mmc on the remote server directly using psexec

Sorry guys, the power went out and I got disconnected from the network and was unable to log back in. I had to do the traditional reboot the server technique but I thank you all for your valuable contributions!
