What does it mean when a computer says that the USB ports are being overloaded with voltage?

We purchased these adapters for our staff.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WPTG7NX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The HDMI was connected to the projector and the USB 3.0 to a webcam.
The Mac popped up with a message saying that the USB port was being overloaded with too much voltage, and I must unplug the device.
Anyone know why this is happening? Is it dangerous? How do I resolve it?
Thank you!

Are you sure it was complaining about voltage and not current?

USB 1 and 2 ports are limited to 500 mA current draw.  Plugging in a device that pulls more than 500 mA will cause the computer to complain as this overloads the USB interface.

Thank you.
Is it dangerous or should we just ignore it? If ignore, restart or just move past it?
Best to run the device through an external USB power supply, so power comes from the power supply rather than computer.

Longest life for your computer will likely be to use an external USB power supply.

https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Extension-Adapter-Back-Voltage-Protection/dp/B076C6PDNH worked well for connecting a USB disk to a Roku SetTop box.
It can be dangerous if the voltage is too high.  It will blow your computer.  You should unplug the device and determine if it's overloading other USB ports.  You might want to isolate the USB device with a USB hub.

When you say blow the computer do you mean the motherboard?
