Domain controllers (Redundant) question adding 2019 DC to 2012

Hey there
Hope everyone is well and safe. I have a small virtual environment with a main DC, and had added a few years a go the domain roles to a win2k8 server as a backup DC.  As you know, it is EOL, Two questions.
1.  What should I do in terms of removing the win2k8 server as a DC - just do a DC promo and follow the prompts and should I do this before adding a new one?
This shouldn't in anyway impact the primary DC - correct?

2.  Can I add a 2019 Windows server as a DC by just doing a dcpromo and pointing it towards the primary 2012 DC without breaking anything?
I think it prompts for you to install DNS etc. which I would.

Any possible issues I should look out for? Order in which I should do it etc

Thanks!!!
