How do I delete a JSON node via PowerShell?

Please refer to the image below, and the sample .json file attached, which happens to be where Chrome preferences are stored (the exact location is "C:\Users\$($env:UserName)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Preferences"). The node custom_handlers was added using Add-Member. Being that there is no corresponding Remove-Member, how would I accomplish the following with PowerShell:
(1) Delete the entire custom_handlers node?
(2) Delete (only) the first ignored_protocol_handlers node?
