How to save picturebox or file image to sql server from vb.net

I need to save images to my database from a vb.net application.
This could be from a file path or a picturebox.
I am using varbinary(max) data type - is this correct?
I'm not sure how to upload the actual picture. EG:

Using Dim command As New SqlCommand("insert into [dbo].[MyPictures] ([MyClientNo],[MyRefNo],[PicType],[CreatedOn],[Picture],[Textfield]) values
('123', '456', 1, Getdate(), *Picture*, 'My Holiday Pic')", connection)

*Picture*  could be, say "C:\MyPath\IMG123.jpeg" or Picturebox1.image
