Using C and C++ code in one file

Hi,
I am doing some coding in C mainly and it's on operating system kind. Like semaphores, mutex, socket, etc. Most of this is C. Sometimes I feel the need to chipping in C++ code for some things like especially for printing. Rather than using printf use cout... It makes things easier...

What's the general practice? On the same lines would it be a good idea to mix structs and classes in c++
