Cooling fan runs constantly on HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini
This issue has been present since we purchased the unit. I have had HP replace the fan under warranty with no change to the issue. It started out as an intermittent problem but is not constantly running. I have checked for rogue processes, high cpu and memory usage which is all fine. The unit has the latest bios update and all of the latest Windows updates. I see a lot of people complaining on the boards about this issue but I don't see any usable solutions. I have 15 units exactly the same as this one and they are fine.
I need help!!
Thanks.

Windows and BIOS Updates are fine. Check further ones with HP Support Assistant.

Consider also cleaning the inside of the Case. There might be dust.

I called support when we replaced the fan under warranty and they checked that. Thanks.

Also cleaned the case when we replaced the fan. The unit is only about 2 month old.

BIOS is set with default settings? If not I'd give it a try.

No, bios is set as it was from factory. I built 5 units all at the same time and this is the only one acting up. When this started I looked at the settings from the others and made sure they were duplicated but have not tried default. Typically these units won't boot under default settings but I can try.

Use something like speedfan to see the CPU and disk/SSD temps It's quite possible the heatsink needs cleaning and re-pasting.

Excellent idea. Never heard of speedfan. I will do that now. Thanks!

The temps are running 28-30C and the cores are running 39-42C with the fan running at full speed.

Ahhh. Makes more sense. We have done about everything else. Thanks. I will call them tomorrow!!

42 degrees is barely warm as far as CPU is concerned, mine's at 96 degrees but there again I'm playing Kerbal Space Program and that always gets it hot because of the rocket exhausts. I'd check the CMOS settings are identical to a normal one before changing the mobo, there may be performance settings that put the fan higher. Also worth checking if you have a high powered graphics card in it.

I swapped a MoBo with a new unit as a test and it fixed the issue. I will have warranty replace the mobo.
