iPhone 6 hard to charge

I have an iPhone 6, it has become difficult to charge. I plug in the cord to the phone, it has gotten very persnickety, I have to struggle to ge the plug seated "JUST RIGHT" in the phone and be REALLY gentle putting it down or it stops charging. It's like it's difficult  to get it seated just right.

I think cord is ok, I charge my iPad with cord all the time.

Is there a way to clean out lint or other things from the charger plug receptacle?

OK, I thought of that, I'll try that.

Thanks
On some Android devices I've successfully cleaned out the charging socket with a sharp needle.  I use high-magnification glasses (look very odd, but were very inexpensive) with LEDs to look into the socket.
I used a toothpick (wood), it got a lot of lint / fuzz out, works fine now. I did it gently.
