Windows 10: Desktop is shown several times in Windows Explorer
ASKER
Nothing was found whe running sfc /scannow
close the Schnellzugriff - does it still show multiples?
this looks as though it has been added within a favorites view
Right click and check out the properties of each item.
Collapse the top level section, and see.
potentially, each time it was erroneously added
Have you tried deleting the sub0links not the top level links?

The first desktop icon is part of the favorites list.
That 2nd one seems to be a share, such as dropbox, box, or onedrive, but renamed to be Desktop, with a Desktop folder underneath it shared to you or sync'd to you.
Are you using some sharing service?

None of the previous tips helped. What else could be the reason?

@arnold, if ntuser.dat is renamed, moved or deleted, then profile will no longer work and may get an error message like the following while logged into a temporary profile.
It will get recreated, this error commonly occurs, if the profile folder is renamed but the hklm ..... Profilelist, profileguid still points to c:\users\youruser will start a temp profile....
Note, my siggestion dealt with renaming moving the two into a new folder while loged on with another admin account.
Ntuser.dat/ntuser.log if missing, should get recreated.....
Ntuser.dat us the user hive

i suggest a fresh install - it will probably take less time than trying to repair it; AND you're sure it's ok then
don't forget to backup first !
don't forget to backup first !
as admin the following command — see if it finds errors or repairs when it completes then restart:
sfc /scannow
