Virtual machine consolidate during Veeam backup
Hi, I have a VMware ESXi 6.7 cluster.
It seems that Veeam crashed during a backup of a specific VM.
I founded Veeam (also running on a VM) rebootted).
Such VM seems running normally, anyway in ESXi console I see a message "Virtual machine disks consolidation is needed. "
I still have the "VEEAM BACKUP TEMPORARY SNAPSHOT".
Currently, I could do:
- delete snapshot
- consolidate
Tipically when VEEAM crashes, and I remain with temporary snapshot, I simply delete it.
Can I do this now, safely?
Thank you

If the backup job is not running, use the consolidate option. If this won't help, create a new snapshot and then use Delete All.
What we would do is the following procedure
1. Check that the Veeam VM has no additional VM disks attached, and then proceed to 2.
2. Take a new snapshot on the VM with the snapshot.
3. Wait 120 seconds.
4. Select DELETE ALL.

Hi Hello There.
sorry but from your answer it is unclear if I need to:
1) delete snapshot
2) consolidate

hi Andrew Hancock ,
when you said "Veeam VM", do you actually refer to VM with Veeam software, or the "affected" VM that I was trying to backup?
Thank you

Check the Veeam VM, which has the Veeam software installed, because Veeam uses Hot-Add to add VM disks to itself at backup and disconnects them after backup, if it crashed, it could still have the VM disk attached it was backing up, and it does not make any difference if you take/create snapshots, or delete all or consolidate it will not work, and just create another snapshot...
and follow my guidance and steps.

Hi Andrew,
yes I confirm that Veeam VM does have two more virtual disk attached (the ones from the "other" VM).
Can I simply detach them from Veeam VM?

Ok, I removed (detached) the two disks from Veeam VM, now I am taking snapshot.
very good, depending upon how many hours/days the VM has been running on a snapshot, be patient, when you DELETE ALL.

All went OK.
I really appreciate your help and accuracy.
