microsoft 365 bounce back - 550 5.7.1 Message rejected.

we have configured a new Microsoft 365 account with Exchange. All seems to be working well.

However, during the initial setup, I was sending test emails to the new exchange 365 account to verify when mail started flowing. Unfortunately, the account I was using is now unable to send mail in to the new 365 account.

The message we receive is :-

550 5.7.1 Message Rejected. Too many invalid delivery attempts were received from your IP address.

I too use Microsoft 365, and it is a completely different domain.

I can see no blocking taking place in the 365 admin console.

We do not have any spam protection in place at this time, other than the default ms 365 default stuff.

Where could this be being blocked? If anyone can help resolve this issue, as although its only one email account, I send into this domain constantly.

Any help, much appreciated.

Thanks.

It looks like you said "we have configured a new Microsoft 365 account with Exchange. All seems to be working well."

Do you have an on premise exchange server running in hybrid with office 365 tenant.

The error is saying about you public IP of exchange server on premise.

You need to add your on premise exchange server public IP in the current SPF record of Office 365.

You can also whitelist the on premise IP in Office 365 spam filter.

ASKER

many thanks for your reply.

we did have an on premise exchange server, and have changed our public dns to reflect the changes to microsoft 365 exchange.

we have also replaced the old spf with a nee one also reflecting the change.

this was all done yesterday.

i have also whitelisted the domain that we ard having problems with.

i cannot see any block listings in the 365 portal.

for the bounce back ndr to be issued my email address must be listed somewhere??

being relatively new to 365 i just dont know where to look?
i should add, the on premise exchange server is still running, and will be decommissioned eventually.

i presumed that once the public dns changes were live, the old on premise server would be ignored.

thanks

"i am sending from an external domain. to the new 365 host. "

Can you verify the sending server send connector settings to check if the IgnoreSTARTTLS setting is set to False. Also verify if ForceHELO is enabled on sending sever default Send Connector.
i will check

the sending domain is also a 365 service
Since both the domains are O365, r anyone of you using a third party spam filter.

no spam filter on the receiving domain yet.

the good news it is now working ok! i suspect it was the dns propagation taking its time.

many thanks for your help.

😊👍

welcome.
