Strange email name in Outlook email account in iPhone

Hi Experts!

Very strange stuff: I received a message today in my iPhone as follows:

I checked each one and tested sending and received.  All worked fine except an outlook email account.  The account has a strange naming:

I don't know what is this email.

How can I find out what is this email?

If it's not one of your accounts, I would delete it.  In fact I'd be tempted to erase the iPhone and reconfigure it.  You should at least update it to iOS 14.4

A security flaw was found in the previous version of iOS.  https://www.cisecurity.org/advisory/multiple-vulnerabilities-in-apple-products-could-allow-for-arbitrary-code-execution_2021-015/

That is why I placed the question, to identify what is this email.  I had the message of "Multiple account errors" before, but just went into each one and done.  This time I saw this email.  Somebody said that it could be from Microsoft To-Do or another apps that uses X email and changes the name when set in iPhone (but I am not sure, so the reason of the question) -  if I erase it and it messes up my iPhone, then it would be worse.

Is there a way to identify this emails origin or why it's in the iPhone?

FYI, my iPhone is IOS 14.4
Do you have an outlook.com email account?  There is a problem with some outlook.com accounts.  The link below has instructions on how to fix it (if you have an outlook account that you can log in to).

Read the links guys and doesn't make sense to my situation because I still don't know the origin of the strange email.  So I have been searching my notes and other backups and I think I got something - So guys, I think I have what happen.  So with this info I hope u guys help what to do:

  • First, I identified the strange naming xxx@outlook account as an xxx@iCloud account
  • How? I went into the iPhone inbox of the strange naming xxx@outlook account
  • Then tap on the icon to write and sending an email
  • I sent the email to my other account
  • I received the email from the strange naming xxx@outlook account
  • When I see the sender address, it’s a xxx@iCloud account
(Please note that the BCC never arrived in the strange naming xxx@outlook account)
  • Then I go to my iPhone Apple-Id configuration area
  • Then tap on ‘Name, Phone Numbers, Email’
  • In that area I find my email for Apple-ID and one xxx@iCloud and 2 xxx@me.com
(I assume those emails, other than my Apple-id email, were part of the iPhone initial setup)

My humble conclusion: I think this strange xxx@outlook email account in my iPhone is related to the xxx@iCloud email account I sent the email from.

Now the strange thing is, why is there a xxx@outlook account? So I kept searching and I found a note in an old file with instructions for creating a an outlook account for the apps I wanted to use at that time "Microsoft To Do" (I stopped using the apps long time ago).

This is as close as I got to what's going one.  U guys r d experts, please fill in the gaps if any.

Thank u again, lots!

Done.

What suppose to happen?
Post back what you saw.

tap on ‘Name, Phone Numbers, Email'

What are the email addresses listed under "CONTACTABLE AT"?

My wild guess is that you have created a disposable email address for your outlook.com account and use the same for one of your contact email address when you created your Apple ID. But you have removed the disposable email address now.

tap on ‘Name, Phone Numbers, Email'
There is no ‘Name, Phone Numbers, Email' to tap on in https://www.icloud.com/mail/.  That area is found in the iPhone not the iCloud. and in the iPhone I have 3 emails as said in my entry:
  • Main apple-id email
  • a @icloud.com email (the one in question)
  • a @me.com
  • another @me.com email account
These emails was created when first setup the iphone

What are the email addresses listed under "CONTACTABLE AT"?
There is no "CONTACTABLE AT" in https://www.icloud.com/mail/

But you have removed the disposable email address now.
I haven removed any emails from my iPhone

As for the link, I never created alias emails.
In the same page of 'Name, Phone Numbers, Email' in your iPhone.

Is your Apple ID an Outlook.com email address?

What do you see under HIDE MY EMAIL?

In the same page of 'Name, Phone Numbers, Email' in your iPhone, Is your Apple ID an Outlook.com email address?

No, is a Hotmail email

What do you see under HIDE MY EMAIL?

a 'Forward To' and the is the same Hotmail as in my Apple-id (note, if I click there, I see my @Hotmail.com email, @me.com and the @outlook.com email - but the @Hotmail.com email is the one selected.
In your iPhone, goto Settings -> Mail -> Accounts -> Select your iCloud email account

What do you see?

Or, do you use Outlook for iOS app to send and receive iCloud email account?

User generated image

It does sends an email.  The recipient email address and the supposedly link email address as "on behalf of" (see pix) is displayed at the recepient email (shows both the "strange-email" and tghe link xxx@outlook.com email)

I think is somethin as what I said in my previous entry (though I am not sure), is that "I think this strange xxx@outlook email account in my iPhone is related to the xxx@iCloud email account I sent the email from. I think this strange xxx@outlook email account in my iPhone is related to the xxx@iCloud email account I sent the email from."

Hi Jacki Man, I was going to that prior placing the question but I don't know the effect of this; thus the question.  After running the question with u guys, all points there is possible a relationship between this strange email and my apple-id email.

So, help me out, if I delete this email and add it back, what can possible happen with my iPhone apple id account?
The strange email account is not related to your Apple ID or iCloud.

To confirm the above, in your iPhone, go to Settings -> Mail -> Accounts and do a screenshot.

u r correct, no "iCloud" wording in the strange-email settings, just "mail, contact, calendars" ...ok, will try and get back to u
Wait for your feedback.

Sorry about that, but u r correct, if I go to iPhone setting as ur pix shows, the "strange" account have the "iCloud" as your pix iPhone:

User generated image

Nevertheless, if I go to the "strange" account in my iPhone and send an email from there, the recipient receives an email from an @icloud account; that account is also under my Apple-Id ‘Name, Phone Numbers, Email’

So it means that I somehow used that email to create an outlook account, thus the reason when I go to outlook.com I go in with said account - again I think this was for Microsoft To-Do.

My fear if I delete this account my iPhone will mess-up.

Question: I have 3 emails in 4 emails in setup >> apple-id >> ‘Name, Phone Numbers, Email’, if I delete the "strange" email from email account, what do u think can happen? (I need that input prior deleting the email and reconnecting again)
