Nvidia display plus build-in ASUS video broke Windows.

Hello all,

I have a ASUS z280 motherboard with built-in video out which I have never used nor installed the drivers because of the added Nvidia card.

Today, I decided to install the ASUS drivers for the built-in video port to add a third monitor. In back of my mind, I was thinking "don't do it until I back up and also research the feasibility"... but no, I didn't listen to my inner voice and now I "killed" my computer. LOL

Kind of late, but was what I attempted even possible? I mean, should it have worked? Or should I have purchased one of those USB to HDMI adapters?

Any suggestions on next steps are appreciated.

BTW, the EE iPhone app is broken. I can't scroll to see my text, and my typing overlaps the boundaries of the text window. :(

I'm preemptively asking this question while I attempt a rescue. Boot in recovery mode.

At this point, I am more curious about whether or not this was possible, but I made a mistake.
It seems that I really messed my computer up. :O

The mini-monitor that I attached to the motherboard port is working, but all the Windows recovery options are failing.

I'm seeing the error, "The required device is not connected or inaccessible"
I don't seem to have the ability to upload pictures from the iPhone app. :(

What a terrible app.

Got into System restore point for before the Asus drivers were installed.

But will it work? I have low confidence in the Windows restore feature in non-bootable conditions.

I think a better option will be to use this opportunity to rebuild from scratch. This Windows 10 install is so old that it was an upgraded Windows 7 install.
The recovery worked. I'm impressed. You really need to be patient because even though it appeared to be "stuck", it was working in the background and required about 45 minutes to complete.
Now, back to my original question. Is it possible to activate my motherboard monitor port for a third monitor?

I don't know about your specific motherboard, but it is fairly common that the motherboard video will not work when an add-on card is installed.

I tried to find a manual for an ASUS Z280, but wasn't successful.  Is that the correct model number?

Apologies, when I posted, I didn't have access to my files.
Yes, the motherboard is an "ASUS Prime Z270-A LGA1151 Kaby Lake".

I was hoping that I could use the built-in video output along-side my Nvidia video card.

Thanks Nobus. I already have a pretty good Nvidio card that works really well so I am not interested in updating.:)
But can my card support more than two monitors? It supports: DP 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, Dual Link-DVI. I am currently using both HDML ports.

It turns out that my card does support up to 5 monitors. Doh!

It has two DP (Display ports) and one DVI port available. Because I only HDMI monitors, I purchased both a Display port to HDMI and a DVI to HDMI adapter (giving me the ability to add a fourth monitor later on).
