SharePoint 2019 Can't open MS documents within Sharepoint

Hi EE,

Our SharePoint 2019 instance has the following problem:

See attached Sharepoint Error.PNG  it was working just fine up until a couple of weeks ago.

The workaround currently is to download the document.

Any help is welcome

Thank you

A few points and questions:
  • Is this SharePoint On-premise?
  • The screenshot shows that a pdf was being opened. Are you also having problems with MS Office Documents?
  • The screenshot also shows that Microsoft Online is in use, or Office Online Server. Has that worked in your environment before?
  • I have occasionally had the same problem in our SharePoint 2016 On-premise environment using Office Online Server. What I do to fix the issue is do an IIS reset on the App server that is bound with the Office Online Server.
  • On a few rare occasions I have had to restart the Office Online Service on the Office Online Server.

Hope that helps...

Thank you.

Hi Walter,

How do I locate the IIS App server that is bound with the Office Online Server?

Thank you.
