Note: If you're new to WordPress backups, you must use a Backup plugin or never rename your site URL in your database.

Better said, any site renaming must occur by way of a serialized data aware search + replace tool.

If "serialized data aware search + replace tool" is a new topic for you, a good bit of research is required to understand this.

And even if you do develop this understanding, people who work with WordPress site maintenance every day, only do maintenance using this type of tool, as trying to do brain based math to hand generate serialized data is error prone + almost always fails.

Tip: If you do this, fixing all resulting problems will be a great learning experience.
